Tips to Make the Most of Your Backyard Greenhouse

If you’re lucky enough to own a hobby greenhouse, you may think that you’re already making the most of your structure.  Maybe you’re in your greenhouse virtually every day, puttering around with your beautiful flowers and plants and can’t imagine anything better than the time you spend there.  And maybe you’ve even tried your hand at cross-pollinating some plants and have had some success with your “designer” flowers.  But at any rate, there is probably even more you can be doing to make the most of your backyard greenhouse.  You can consider it part of your landscape and as another room in your house.  How so?

For one thing you want to think about how your backyard greenhouse really looks from the outside.  Is it enhancing the appearance of your yard and home or detracting from it?  Unfortunately sometimes a backyard greenhouse can look very functional and utilitarian and not much more.  Some models and designs may look like nothing more than a glass tool shed!  But with a few simple touches you can really spruce up your structure so that it’s beautiful as well as functional.  Consider how landscaping around it can help.  Dig up some soil around it and fill it in with rich topsoil and plant some of those beautiful flowers around it.  Use some border stones to give it added appeal.  Think of your backyard greenhouse as another room in the house and consider how its appearance looks overall.  Make a plan and do what you can to make your structure look welcoming and inviting.

Another thing to think about is how your backyard greenhouse really functions on the inside.  You may think of it as just being a building to grow plants but many consider their greenhouse as a type of sunroom or sun porch.  If you have enough room, put a nice lawn chair inside so that you can relax and enjoy the warmth.  Some even find that a nice chair and table to put a cool drink is worth sacrificing some shelf space.  Your backyard greenhouse can become your favorite retreat during the warm summer months as you enjoy the sights and smells of your beautiful blooms.

If you’re going to make the most of your greenhouse you’re going to need to keep it neat and clean and in good repair.  It’s very easy to leave your accessories and tools just strewn about, but putting those things away when you’re not using them will help to improve the feeling of your structure.  Consider investing in a nice storage unit that you can keep outside your backyard greenhouse and that will keep your tools organized for you.  It’s very difficult to enjoy your space if it’s messy and disorganized!  Your backyard greenhouse can really function as a second porch or sunroom and can enhance the appearance of your landscaping if you decide to make it so.  A little bit of time and effort will get you there!

All About Types of Wicker Furniture

Garden furniture comes in a variety of styles and materials, and is typically made from wicker, plastic, or metal. There are pros and cons to each type of material. Wicker furniture, also known as rattan, is one of the most common and has the following features to consider before your purchase:

•It is the most comfortable.
•It is cheaper than metal, and comparable with plastic.
•It is lightweight.
•It is aesthetically beautiful.
•It is usually made from 100% natural materials.
•It can be used indoors and outdoors, and looks good in either setting.
•It is less durable than metal or plastic.

Furniture covers are especially important to maintaining wicker garden furniture, as excessive heat and moisture can severely damage wicker pieces over time. Furniture covers typically come in vinyl or polyester. Vinyl covers are tougher, cheaper, and easier to clean; but are less attractive, and tend to be heavy. Polyester covers are more lightweight and breathable, as well as being more attractive.

While it does require additional attention, outdoor wicker furniture is easy to maintain. Regular cleaning with hot water and a mild amount of bleach can help prevent mildew buildups, which can be unsightly and bad for the furniture. Too much direct sunlight can also be bad for wicker, so keeping your wicker pieces in the shade whenever possible will also help prolong their lifespan. Occasional re-varnishing will also keep the furniture looking brand new. Don’t ever use a solvent.

Plastic furniture is also lightweight, durable, and cheap, but suffers from a number of serious drawbacks. It can be very uncomfortable, especially compared to wicker. It is also the least aesthetically pleasing type of outdoor furniture, and is virtually useless indoors. In contrast, wicker garden furniture is exceptionally comfortable, and comes in a variety of styles suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Metal garden furniture can be very comfortable and durable, but these advantages come at a price. It is far more expensive than wicker garden furniture, with most outdoor sets easily exceeding $1,000. Metal is also very heavy, and can get uncomfortably hot during the summer months. Purchasing cushions for the seat and backrest is an option. This also provides at “splash of color”.

If you’re looking for different varieties of wicker furniture, consider buying bamboo or resin-coated wicker pieces. These are more durable and slightly heavier than traditional rattan, but are primarily intended for outdoor use. These materials are less expensive and can be eco friendly, and are usually made in the Far East and many times in developing nations.

Wicker garden furniture is great at creating a relaxed, casual atmosphere regardless of where you use it. With many styles and designs available, a couple pieces of wicker can add a touch of class your sunroom, patio, or pool area without breaking the budget. If you’re looking for flexible, lightweight, stylish furniture that requires minimal care, wicker is a great investment.

You can’t make a wrong decision if you love the style and it goes with your lifestyle!

Temo: The Leader In Sunrooms

TEMO is one of the leading companies in the sunroom industry. They have specialized in designing and building sunrooms for more than 30 years. TEMO has not rested on its laurels, but instead continually works not only on new designs, but on improving their materials – the high-grade vinyls, the most energy efficient windows, and the installation procedures, to make their sunrooms second to none.

TEMO was founded by Giovanni Vitale, who emigrated to America from Italy in 1967 at the age of 22. Vitale was driven by the need to succeed, and soon started a business providing aluminum skirting for homes. He quickly expanded his business to provide sunrooms, and the sunroom portion grew so rapidly that in 1981 TEMO (whose initials stand for Trust, Enthusiasm, Motivation and Opportunity) devoted itself entirely to the sunroom market.

TEMO’s headquarters are located in Clinton Township, Michigan. In addition to their retail showroom, TEMO’s headquarters includes their engineering department, their manufacturing site, warehouse and shipping facilities, as well as their corporate offices consisting of their customer service and in-house marketing department. Because everything is located close together, quality control is easy to maintain.

TEMO may be headquartered in Michigan, but they have dealers around the country, so you’ll know that wherever you live, there’ll be someone to help you choose the best sunroom for your needs.

TEMO’s engineering department designs exclusive product line, so that they can continuously bringing their customers the finest in state-of-the-art structures, styles, and features. It was TEMO engineers that innovated the first thermally insulated roof and wall systems for sunrooms, for example. TEMO intends to maintain their lead in the sunroom industry, and their engineering department has a great deal to do with that. One of their main interests is to make sure that their sunrooms will always remain maintenance free.

Because TEMO’s sunrooms are built so well – they can withstand snow loads and all kinds of weather conditions such as hurricanes, which is very important if you live in those areas noted for wind storms or other heavy weather.

TEMO offers 6 sunroom designs to choose from. Each of these designs then has many options available to customize them to meet the desires and budget of the individual homeowner.

These designs consist of the Studio, which features the customary flat roof, the Cathedral, which has a vaulted roof, the California, which has a split-level roof, the Solarium – in which you can get really warm, the Conservatory which is a small room with an ornate Victorian or Edwardian style of architecture, and the new Signature Collection, in which the sunroom is integrated right into the home itself.
