Then a Texas sun actually be used?

My family has exceeded our house. With the market being what it is and does not knowing when we will be able to sell our house, we plan to add a conservatory to the rear of our house. This room would be used as a playroom for the most part, but also a home office and guest room (we had installed some sort of blinds or something) But I'm curious … with the heat and sun of Texas, can you actually use a porch all year without melting? The room is protected by the shade of a big tree, but I'm still worried. I am also curious if anyone knows an approximate cost? Something small, maybe 12×12?

It depends on where you live in Texas. If you live in the dry part of the state and a veranda with a set of ceiling fans can be used almost all summer and certainly in the late evening and overnight. That would be West Texas and the enclave. Shadow or no shadow, so you live on the Gulf Coast or East Texas, then you really need an air conditioner having a nice room to live in the summer.
