What can I do to make the cathedral ceiling in my living room pop out?

I simply love the idea of the high ceiling, but white is really not my thing. I have used a dark satin (mahagony) material for my curtains, with an off-white netting to back it up. This is a split level and the wood work is absolutely gorgeous, esp the hardwood in the living room.
I need to redo my sofas with slipcovers (never mind what colour they are right now, but I never got around to change them after I moved here)
But the white on the walls has to go. I’d like to keep that room as cheerful as possible, because that’s how the other people living with me like it.

Its a medium sized room and the windows face the west. However, it is attached to the kitchen and the kitchen extends into the dining room/sunroom. So all three rooms are very airy.

have a fake rustic or other wood support beam made and installed in cathedral ceiling with paddle fan/light if possible beam will pull eyes upward
