Lou asked:

Our deck is only a foot high , we haven’t had any problems. We want to make a sun room out of it and wonder if that might be a problem

It should not be, as long as you leave the area between the deck and the ground open to the air. You also might want to put a layer of landscape fabric, covered with a layer of gravel on the ground under the deck. This will help with drainage, and keep any shade loving plants from growing up and into your new sun room. DO NOT USE PLASTIC. IT WILL TRAP IN ANY MOISTURE!!!!

I’d put in place a way for air to costantly move in and out. Humidity pooled there can certainly ruin wood decks but the way the wood is sealed has lots to do with it’s stability. To corden off this deck and subject it to sunny confines raises many questions about the clouds of volitile chemicals you can possibly trap and disperse throughout your home. Are you willing to subject your significant other and prodigny to such concentrations of pesticides over a long period of time? Many manufactureurs thrive at your expense. The u.s. is so deceptive to the point of insanity, when health is concerned.
